The bird centre at Desford was set-up in 1984 by Richard Hopper who is acclaimed for breeding
Wrinkled Hornbills and also supporting other birds who would otherwise may have been abandoned.
He is also famed for his free-flying Macaws that fill the sky around the centre.
Its an perfect venue for our photography.
After setting up your camera in our giant walk-in hide youll be close enough to shoot many
different but totally fasinating birds such as the Red Whiskered Bulbul, Weaver birds, Toucan, Rock and
White Crested Laughing Thrush. Also Bourke Parakeet, spectacular Glossy Starlings and Turaco's.
They'll settle on branches and twigs and you'll be so near that you will be able to capture them
with mouth fulls of wriggling grubs, birds bathing and building nests (birds willing!).
You will not need a large telephoto as for regular bird photography, a 70-300mm zoom will be
absolutely fine. There is no need to shoot through bars or glass either as the birds are immediately
in front of you. The backgrounds are leaves and branches which recreate a very natural situation.
In no time at all youll be shooting your best ever images.
Also at Desford there are many species of Macaw including Hyacinth, Military and Scarlet which
unusually, are free flying which allows us to photograph them in flight and also perched in trees
which will make your images even more special.
Help will be given to assist you with the camera settings and checking exposure throughout the day.
This is a great event for bird enthusiasts and ideal for beginners. Tuition is given at the time of
shooting to make it immediate, relevant and beneficial to you. We offer a great deal of help with your camera
on this event.
