Stratford-upon-Avon, famous for its theatre and birth place of William Shakespeare is also
home to a beautifully situated Butterfly farm. At a constant 25C it makes the perfect summer
venue all year round. It's one of the largest in the UK and supplies common and rare butterflies
to many of the other butterfly farms throughout the UK and overseas.
It houses an exotic rainforest: a landscape of tropical blossom surrounding splashing
waterfalls and miniature pools.
Scheduled mid-week when it is at its very quietest, we'll teach you how to photograph
some of the world's most spectacular and colourful butterflies in a wonderful lush environment.
In small groups and 1:1 we'll demonstrate techniques for shooting really close along with advice
and tips on how to bring out the best in the subject. You'll be shown which shooting and
metering mode to select and when to use servo AF. Additionally, how to change the ISO and white
balance to keep pace with the changing light levels and backgrounds. And for the more
difficult butterflies, how to use exposure compensation and auto exposure lock.
For those who have brought flash equipment we'll demonstrate how to set it up and the
camera and flash shooting mode to use. We will go on to explain its use in close-up photography
and how to use it off camera but still retain its auto exposure.
We have also made special arrangements to photograph the insects just as they emerge
from their pupae and some of the worlds largest and hairiest caterpillars.
The centre is also home to a number of different frogs and although
they are behind glass we'll show you just how easy it is to photograph
them clearly and without any tell tale reflections.
Expert help from the centre will also be on hand in case you have any queries
about the subjects themselves.
1:1 help and small group tutorial sessions are given throughout.
